About copyright of content in UML models, diagrams, and text on this site

On special copyright arrangements for text copied from other sources into UML models here

One of the powerful diagramming techniques demonstrated on this site involves copying text from technical documents (such as the OMG specifications, wikipedia articles, or systems design manual) into UML Comment elements and binding the text with handles to other UML model elements, after Dr Darren's UML Parsing Analysis recipe. We endeavour to respect the original copyright in all such cases, and emphasise the educational value of the technique.

On copyright of text quoted from OMGTM specifications

Text snippets copied into Comments from OMG specifications are clearly stereotyped to indicate the original source, thus:

<<UML2.1.1>>

<<SysML1.0>>

<<SysML1.0:sample>>

It is hereby acknowledged that the copyright in the specification text of all such Comments remains with the OMG and contributing partners.

On copyright of text quoted from Wikipedia articles

Many UML examples on this site are based on technical texts from the Wikipedia. Such text is covered by the GNU Free Documentation License, and text snippets copied into Comments from the Wikipedia are clearly stereotyped to indicate the original source, thus:

<<wikipedia:copyleft>>

In some cases the explicit URL to the quoted Wikipedia article is included as a tagged value.
