About Dr Darren

Dr Darren Kelly is a scientific computing expert and experienced MagicDraw UMLTM user with over a decade's experience using and teaching UML. He has applied MagicDraw UMLTM and its MD SysML Plugin to a wide range of real-world software engineering, systems engineering, and scientific tasks such as:

  • Development of a distributed ModelServer framework in UML, SysML, Java & XMLfor modelling, simulation, animation, and control of scientific instrumentssuch as radiotelescopes, particle accelerators, synchrotrons, and neutron beam instruments. (Using MagicDraw UML of course.)
  • Scientific visualisation, sonification, and animation applications
  • Data modelling and XML-schema engineering for the NeXus neutron science data format
  • Signal processing applications such as real-time gestural synthesis of sounds and visuals using non-tactile gestural controllers. (So you can finally hear "the sound of one hand clapping", and also "see your hand waving".)
  • Distributed computing and secure architecture development

He is a model-based systems engineering and port-based systems and software engineering advocate, and promotes the UML Parsing Analysis recipe for translating technical texts into UML models. He now also works closely with the Magicdraw SysML Plugin developers.

Dr Darren hopes you enjoy this new series of tutorial trails for the MagicDraw UML tool and its SysML plugin !
